Towards an EU enlargement
Five countries are hoping to join the European Union in its next enlargement. Three of these aspirations hail from the Balkans, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia. The others are Iceland and Turkey. A different story for each country. How is it going for these countries in their process to join the EU? Iceland submitted its application last year. Turkey’s has been on and off the agenda since April 1987. Why?
