On the 14 March 2013 one day following his appointment as Minister for Finance, Prof Edward Scicluna accompanied Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat on his first EU summit. Prof Scicluna also attended his first Eurogroup meeting which focused on the Cyprus bail-out. They met with Martin Schulz, the President of the European Parliament and former leader of the Socialist group at the EU council.After this meeting they visited Malta’s Embassy in Brussels, Dar Malta, and held a bilateral meeting with Council President Hermann Van Rompuy where they discussed immigration, energy and taxation.

After meeting with Martin Shultz, the President of the European Parliament, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, accompanied by Finance Minister Prof Edward Scicluna, visited Dar Malta in Brussels where he met with the staff. The Prime Minister said that Ms Marlene Bonnici, will continue to be the Maltese representative for the European Union. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat together with Minister Scicluna also attended the meeting of European Socialists’ Party before the summit and also had a meeting with European Council President Hermann van Rompuy.

TVM’s programme dot.eu of Saturday 16th March featured Finance Minister Professor Edward Scicluna accompanying the Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat on his first EU summit in Brussels on Thursday 14th March, followed by the visit to Malta’s Embassy in Brussels, Dar Malta. Presenter Ruth Castillo also presented a feature about Maltese MEP’s who just gave up their seat in the European Parliament to be able to take on their seat at the local Parliament. Spanish MEP Enrique Guerrero Salom commends Prof Scicluna on his experience in the financial sector, his competence and how highly respected he is at the European Parliament.
