Attracting Investment through High-Level Meetings – Videoblog 45

In his weekly video blog, Finance Minister Prof. Edward Scicluna explains that the true function of Government in attracting investment goes far beyond the occasional tax incentive. He explains that the attraction of long-term investment is done in a different manner, such as during high level meetings, where ideas are discussed and transformed into fully-fledged negotiations for cooperation.

Prof. Scicluna explains that he had occasion to do this during the 23rd Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) which was held in Warsaw between Tuesday 13th and Thursday 16th May.

He explains that given how he was able to chair a session of the Board of Governors in his capacity as the Vice-Chairman of the EBRD’s Board of Governors, Malta enjoyed a position of prominence throughout the Annual Meeting.

Prof. Scicluna added that during various high level meetings held alongside the EBRD Annual Meeting, such as with the Governor of the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) Rolf Wenzel, a delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB), and rating agency DBRS, he had an active role in promoting further Malta as a partner for investment and cooperation.
