Finance Minister Prof. Edward Scicluna received a courtesy visit from H.E. Wojciech Ponikiewski, Polish Ambassador to Italy who is also responsible for Malta, on Wednesday 12th November, 2013.
During the meeting, Prof. Scicluna and Mr Ponikiewski discussed the various similarities between Malta and Poland, among them being the efforts of both countries to diversify the mix of technologies and sources for energy generation that both countries rely upon.
Prof. Scicluna and Mr Ponikiewski also discussed issues pertaining to the European Union, including the Banking Union. The respective positions of Malta and Poland were discussed ahead of the upcoming ECOFIN and EUROGROUP meetings later on this month.
The issue of immigration was also touched upon, with both Prof. Scicluna and Mr Ponikiewski agreeing that the issue should be discussed on a European platform not only within a humanitarian context, but also within an economic context.
Prof. Scicluna and Mr Ponikiewski also discussed the importance of foreign investment, and how the global economic landscape is shifting in this regard.
