Finance Minister Edward Scicluna participated in the 2015 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group (WBG) Spring Meetings along with other Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from the 188 member countries. The Meetings were held on 17th and 18th April in Washington.
Minister Scicluna attended various high level meetings with international financial institutions, discussing the country’s economic outlook and the crucial economic reforms currently underway, and the economic and financial results being achieved
Minister Scicluna met with representatives of the IMF’s Article IV Mission and Fiscal Affairs Department, and of international credit ratings agencies DBRS, Standard & Poor’s, and Moody’s. He also held meetings with World Bank Executive Director Patgrizio Pagano and IMF Executive Director Carlo Cottarelli. Together with his Portuguese and Greek counterparts, he also attended a constituency meeting called by Italian Finance Minister Pier Carlo Padoan.
“I am very satisfied with the outcome of these meetings and proud to communicate the excellent results that our country is achieving. Such meetings are essential for Malta to deliver on its promise of transparency, which was also extended to international institutions,” Minister Scicluna said. “We continue to engage proactively with these institutions on the Government’s economic plans and listen attentively to their views and advice in what has become a beneficial and trusting relationship.”
Minister Scicluna was accompanied in Washington by the Central Bank of Malta Governor, Josef Bonnici.

Il-Ministru għall-Finanzi, Edward Scicluna, ħa sehem fil-Laqgħat tar-Rebbiegħa tal-2015 tal-Fond Monetarju Internazzjonali (FMI) u l-Grupp tal-Bank Dinji, flimkien ma’ Ministri għall-Finanzi u Gvernaturi tal-Banek Ċentrali oħrajn mill-188 pajjiż membru. Il-Laqgħat saru fis-17 u t-18 ta’ April f’Washington.
Il-Ministru Scicluna kellu diversi laqgħat ta’ livell għoli ma’ istituzzjonijiet finanzjarji internazzjonali, li magħhom iddiskuta dwar il-perspettiva ekonomika ta’ Malta u r-riformi ekonomiċi kruċjali li qed isiru, kif ukoll dwar ir-riżultati ekonomiċi u finanzjarji li qed jinkisbu.
Il-Ministru ltaqa’ ma’ rappreżentanti tal-Missjoni tal-FMI skont l-Artikolu IV u tad-Dipartiment għall-Affarijiet Fiskali tal-FMI, kif ukoll ma’ rappreżentanti tal-aġenziji internazzjonali tal-klassifikazzjoni tal-kreditu DBRS, Standard & Poor’s, u Moody’s.
Kellu wkoll laqgħat mad-Direttur Eżekuttiv tal-Bank Dinji, Patgrizio Pagano, u mad-Direttur Eżekuttiv tal-FMI, Carlo Cottarelli. Flimkien mal-Ministri għall-Finanzi tal-Portugall u tal-Greċja, attenda wkoll għal laqgħa msejħa mill-kontraparti Taljan tiegħu, Pier Carlo Padoan.
“Inħossni sodisfatt ħafna b’dak li ħareġ minn dawn il-laqgħat u kont kburi li kelli l-opportunità li nikkomunika r-riżultati eċċellenti li qed jikseb pajjiżna. Tali laqgħat huma essenzjali biex Malta twettaq il-wegħda tagħha dwar it-trasparenza, li ġiet estiża wkoll għall-istituzzjoniojiet internazzjonali,” qal il-Ministru Scicluna. “Aħna se nibqgħu naħdmu b’mod proattiv ma’ dawn l-istituzzjonijiet dwar il-pjanijiet ekonomiċi tal-Gvern u nisimgħu b’attenzjoni l-fehmiet u l-pariri tagħhom, issa li bnejna magħhom relazzjoni ta’ benefiċċju u fiduċja.”
F’Washington, il-Ministru Scicluna jinsab akkumpanjat mill-Gvernatur tal-Bank Ċentrali ta’ Malta, Josef Bonnici.
