Il-Ministru għall-Finanzi Edward Scicluna attenda l-kommemorazzjoni annwali li tfakkar liż-żewġ inġiniera, Ċiniżi Xu Huizhong u Gy Yanzhao, li kienu tilfu ħajjithom fit-Tarzna ta’ Malta waqt il-bini tal-Baċir numru 6, dak iż-żmien magħruf bħala Red China Dock waqt il-kostruzzjoni tad-Dry Dock Numru 6, fl-1979.

F’ċerimonja simbolika bi tqegħid ta’ fjuri fuq l-oqbra taż-żewġ inġiniera Ċiniżi fiċ-ċimiterju tal-Addolorata, il-Ministru Scicluna qal li, “il-kommemorazzjoni tas-Sur Xu u s-Sur Gu hija turija ċara tal-ħbiberija b’saħħitha li tgħaqqad lil Malta u ċ-Ċina, li tmur lil hinn mir-rabtiet kummerċjali, u li matul dawn l-aħħar snin, marru f’livell ogħla.”
L-Ambaxxatur taċ-Ċina għal Malta, s-Sur Jiang Jiang qal, “iċ-Ċina hija diġà t-tieni l-ikbar ekonomija fid-dinja u dejjem aktar qrib ta’ rivitalizzazzjoni nazzjonali. Sar ukoll progress kbir f’Malta. Imma dak li baqa ‘kostanti huwa l-ħbiberija bejn il-popli tagħna.”
Preżenti wkoll għal din il-kommemorazzjoni kien hemm il-President tal-Assoċjazzjoni ta’ Ħbiberija bejn Malta u ċ-Ċina, s-Sur Reno Calleja, membri mill-Kamra tal-Kummerċ ta’ bejn Malta u ċ-Ċina, u rappreżentanti tal-komunità Ċiniża f’Malta.
Finance Minister attends ceremony marking China’s Memorial Day
Minister for Finance Edward Scicluna attended the yearly commemoration of two Chinese engineers who lost their lives during the construction of dock number 6, the then known as Malta Dry Docks Red China Dock, in 1979.

When speaking during the wreath-laying ceremony at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetry to pay tribute to Xu Huizhong and Gy Yanzhao, Minister Scicluna said that “the commemoration of Mr Xu and Mr Gu bears testimony to the strong friendship which unites Malta and China, and goes beyond their commercial ties, which over the last couple of years, were taken to a higher level.”
Chinese Ambassador to Malta, Mr Jiang Jiang said, “China is already the world’s second largest economy and ever closer to the goal of national revitalization. Great progress has also taken place in Malta. But what has remained constant is the friendship between our peoples.”
Also present for the commemoration were the President of the Malta-China Friendship Association, Mr Reno Calleja, members of The Malta-China Chamber of Commerce and other representatives of the Chinese community in Malta.
